I've been thinking about passions lately.
It seems like everybody has a passion. Either that or it's become a buzzword to cover things that people just like.
I mean how can mint chocolate chip ice cream qualify as a true passion?
I used to have things that I felt passionate about, but I can't seem to identify them anymore.
What is a passion, anyway? I think it's something that is very important to you. Some of them, you can recognize and do something about, and some you can't.
My sister is passionate about horses. I have a friend who is passionate about missing persons.
Most people's family is something they're passionate about. That pretty much goes without saying.
I think I've got mine...but I can't really do much about all three of them, though.
1) Writing. I've always loved writing. I've had a bunch of health issues lately so I've kinda hit a huge writer's block. Sometimes the word I want won't come to mind, and that drives me crazy.Subjects won't come to me, and when they do, what I write sounds all messed up. This blog entry is a perfect example of that. The best I can hope for is if I work on it, the words will come back, and I can be the writer that I used to be and that I want to be again.
2) Singing. Oh how I love to sing. I love to sing the old hymns. (My 30 year old son told me recently that some of his first memories were of me standing at the pulpit at church singing a solo.). I love to put on a mix of country music on You Tube and sing along when Dave's napping. We got a karaoke machine here at Limpdik Park, and I loved to sing Patsy Cline, until one of my so called friends thought it would be fun to heckle me so badly that I never went back. Now I just sing along with Trisha just to entertain myself.
3) This is the big one. The one that I guess would be the thing that I'm truly passionate about.
Declawing cats.
There isn't a lot a I can do about it, except try to educate people to know that it's not the same as a kitty manicure. It's mutilation. It removes all the way past the first knuckle. It's painful. It can cause lifelong behavior problems. Bone fragments in the paws make it painful to walk. When the cat is in such pain, they can't scratch in the litter box, so they pee other places in the house. They hurt, so they bite. That's when people surrender them to rescues where in most cases they are put to death. It's not right and it's not humane.
I urge anyone to go to a website called The Paw Project and view their documentary, then share it with everyone you know.
Many countries throughout the world have banned declawing and it's time for The United States to ban it in every state NOW. Also available on Facebook and Netflix.

So, I guess that's what I'm passionate about. Except that mint chocolate chip ice cream is sounding pretty darned good. Maybe I'm passionate about that after all.
I think we all let the things we are passionate about slide from time to time. But we are happiest when we are doing those things.
ReplyDeleteSo I would encourage you to write something everyday, even if it's only a couple of lines. (This is the same advice I give myself and haven't been able to follow.
I say SING SING SING!!! If it makes your happy, break out into song wherever you are. I love to stumble across people singing. It makes me happy that someone is enjoying themself.
I never gave declawing any thought until you started posting. So you have educated at least one person. I gave one of our kittens to a coworker. She recently was talking about taking him to the vet and having him neutered and getting all his shots up to date. She mentioned declawing (she has a new leather sofa) I went running into the other room shouting "NOOOOOO!!!!!" So now he has all his shots and is neutered, but he still has his claws. Just like he should.
YAY!....One saved, Anna!!! THANK YOU!! And please continue to share share share!!!
